Continuous Variables

PIC-SURE continuous variables can be filtered using ranges of values, such as greater than, less than, or between values.
For example, if you are interested in people within a specific age group, you could begin your search by typing “age” into the search bar. All variables that include “age” will be displayed; this includes cases where the word “age” is in either the variable name of the value for a variable.
An example of results when searching “age” is shown below. Note that all terms containing “age” will also be returned; this is shown with the initial “Gene_with_variant” results for the GAGE genes. You can navigate to different groups of variables using the tabs below the search bar. Since age is a demographic variable, you can click “00_Demographics”.
You can then select the variable of interest. For this example, “Current age in years” will be used. Since this is a continuous variable, the range of the values will be displayed. In this example, the age variable ranges from 1 to 82.
Based on your query, you can choose not to filter by selecting “Any value” from the first dropdown menu. If you would like to select a specific age range, you can use the “By numeric value” from the first dropdown menu and specify the type of filtering in the second dropdown menu. The options here are “Less than or equal to”, “Between”, and “Greater than or equal to”.
For this example, let’s say we are interested in participants between the ages of 18 and 80. You can select “Between” and type “18” in the first text box and “80” in the second text box. Now that the query is built, you can click “Run”.
The total number of participants in the results box will update to reflect the number of individuals that meet your query criteria. In this example, there are 774 participants between the ages of 18 and 80.
Once you have completed building your query, you can export the corresponding data. See the Data Export section for more details
